Cone Beam CT

Our goal is always to provide patients the most accurate and thorough diagnosis possible. As a result of superimposition, standard dental x-rays reveal only a limited, two-dimensional view of the true three-dimensional problem. This limitation is overcome by using small or limited volume cone beam computed tomography imaging techniques. CBCT imaging offers a large volume of information and subtle details that cannot be obtained from a two dimensional x-ray. A single 3D scan allows us to examine the region of concern with high resolution from many different perspectives.

Our Morita Veraviewepocs 3D F40 provides the highest resolution with the lowest radiation dose possible. The typical radiation dosage for a 40 x 40mm scan is approximately equal to two standard panoramic x-rays or the amount of cosmic radiation absorbed during a New York to Los Angeles flight.

Our software also offers comprehensive reporting and sharing tools to facilitate communication with colleagues and patients. The 3D imaging program allows users to copy all relevant data onto a shareable CD/DVD or flash drive.

Advantages of CBCT in endodontics

  • Identify root canal system abnormalities and determine root canal curvature.
  • Diagnosis of periapical pathology in patients that present with contradictory or nonspecific clinical signs.
  • Intra and post-operative assessment of endodontic complications including separated instruments, perforations, calcified canals or additional canals.
  • Diagnosis and management of dental trauma, including root fractures, luxation and displacement of teeth.
  • Location and differentiation of external vs. internal resorption.
  • Pre-surgical treatment planning to determine the exact location of the root apex and to evaluate the proximity of adjacent anatomic structures.
 
 

 

Digital Imaging

Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health.  We carefully chooses when radiographs are needed. Newtown Endodontics utilizes Dexis digital radiography, allowing for an extremely minimal exposure time.  With these digital sensors, exposure time is about 90 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs.

You cannot treat what you cannot see.  The surgical operating microscope has revolutionized the field of endodontics for both conventional and surgical treatment, allowing us to see the smallest of details.  We have invested in the very best Carl Zeiss surgical microscopes that provide unparalleled magnification and illumination for our root canal and surgical procedures.
